It’s a sad day for me. For the last eight months I have touted the Google Android phone and mocked all iPhone users. Today, I’m eating a lot of crow. Since the people I’ve mocked will want an explanation, here it is…
My wife’s blackberry died, and she needs something fast. I definitely don’t want her driving an hour through downtown Atlanta every day without some kind of communication. Since we’re out of our contract with T-Mobile, we’d have to sign up for another 2 year contract to get a decent deal on a messaging phone, and now that would include 2 years of a $35 per month data plan (ouch). So, instead of locking in again, I’m going to take my licks and jump over to Cingular.
The things I’m going to miss from Google Android: being the guy at the table without an iPhone, great push notifications and multitasking, a really good Gmail app, and my newest friend Google Voice. But, in the end, after 8 months I have to say the iPhone is still the better phone. Maybe a few years down the road the tide will change, and when it does I’ll be able to switch back since Google hasn’t locked down its software to T-Mobile. So for now, farewell Android. I will miss you.
…anybody want to buy a G1?

Be sure to check out the new video for Gift Card Giver, an incredible group dedicated to taking unused gift cards and giving that money away to people in need. After a few months of very long nights, I’m happy to say that I have a new record available! It’s called White Flags, and it’s being released under the name “Brand New Shadows”. Why the new name? Because this record is very different than Orthodoxy, and I didn’t want to confuse anybody. It’s not worship music, but a collection of 12 new songs written over the past year or so. The songs are about life, both good and bad, and are the result of what has been a really difficult year for me.
The new website… brandnewshadows.com will be up and running soon with plenty of information about the record, but for now I wanted to say “Thank You” to a few really important people who made it happen. First, a huge thanks to my wife, who helped me produce and even write some of these songs. There’s no way this would’ve happened without you! A big thanks to Elliott Moon (drums) and Brad Long (guitar), two incredible friends who helped see this thing through from beginning to end. And also a big thank you to Samm Darden (bass), Jeremy Moyers (steel guitar), John Carozza (strings), Chris Briley (mixing), and Phil Rogers (design)… you guys were amazing to work with, and I’m incredibly thankful for everybody who had a hand in making this record happen.
The record will be available through CDBaby soon, as well as iTunes in a month or so. I’ll keep you posted. For now, if you’d like any more information, feel free to email me at eddiekirklandmusic@gmail.com
Hope you like the new music!
